The Swain Family

I sat in the sunroom at my parents' house in Wilmington keeping a close eye on the sky. The sun was barely shining through, but enough to boost my confidence that we were going to fit in this session before the storms hit. Or so I thought. Unfortunately, the sky literally opened up on my way to the Swain's house.

It's always a bummer to not get to shoot outside with the natural light just because that's what I love the most, but I usually just feel bad that the family may not end up with the images they had "pictured" in their mind. Needless to say, Katie & Jason were extremely flexible and still so excited about the session even as we watched the rain continue to pour outside. We started in baby Cate's room right after she awoke from her afternoon nap...and as we made our way throughout the house taking pictures, the rain slowed, and we even got to go outside for the last little bit of the session!

This "rainy" session ended up being one of my favorites yet. Katie & Jason, I am so thankful that you trusted me to capture your family at this stage in your lives! Cate is too, too precious! I hope these pictures will bring much joy to your life now and even in the years to come.

Aubrey & Pete

You may remember Aubrey's face from when I did some headshots of her last Spring. We used to work together at Creech Road until she left me and went to pursue her Masters & Doctoral degrees over at UNC-Chapel Hill. Yep - she's smart. Both she and her husband Pete are active in local theater programs (enter Aubrey's need for headshots here!)...and Pete currently teaches theater at Sanderson High School.

We met at Duke Gardens for this session and I will never forget this particular moment from our time together: I complimented Pete's ability to find the perfect spot beside Aubrey in every picture...with his response being, "Yeah, I've done some posing and placements before!" Classic. Note to self to think before speaking & remember when a person does theater as their job. :)

Anyway - they are expecting their first little one very soon! I would tell you her name, but they haven't announced it publicly yet. However, we did do some pictures with the first letter of her name. I'll post a few of those once she arrives. Enjoy the pictures!

Melissa & Jay: Maternity

Melissa & Jay waited to find out the gender of their precious baby until his or her sweet arrival! I'm excited to announce that Melissa gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Anna Grey, this past Tuesday. I've seen a few pictures on Facebook and she is gorgeous!

I'm so glad we had time to fit in this maternity session before Anna Grey decided to arrive a few weeks early! We spent a little bit of time at the Arboretum and then went down to the beach for some shots at Wrightsville as well.

We shot at a few different locations for Harper's 8 months pictures, but if I'm honest, I have to say that my favorite moment from the session was when we came upon a bed of perfectly green clovers in the dead of winter. Harper loved every minute of laying in the clovers and he's just too cute in his Carhartts! Maybe he could make some money at an early age from doing a bit of advertising?? Enjoy...
